From a topic to a defensible research direction
1. Match the question
Search uses exact, case-insensitive word matches: four points per title term, one per additional abstract term. Any matching term qualifies. Catalog search uses no semantic model or stemming. The synthesis service, when connected, reads selected abstracts separately. Title matches receive more weight than abstract-only matches.
2. Inspect the evidence
Each result tells you which terms matched and where. Load the available abstract from Crossref, or open the DOI to check the publisher’s page. A match is a reading lead, not a verified finding.
3. Read the source
Follow the source to assess the paper’s methods and results. Full text may require access. A synthesis should explain the main idea and compare findings before suggesting a study. Full-text review and a wider novelty search are still needed to validate a claimed gap.
Coverage, limitations, and reproducibility
The collection is expanding to 152 selected finance and economics journals. The selector lists journals represented in this snapshot; newer additions have partial coverage while archive collection continues. It can include reviews, corrections, and other nonresearch items. Coverage is not a complete publisher archive.
Abstract availability varies by journal; see the counts below. Journal fields follow the ABDC field classification; paper-topic labels are a separate preliminary keyword screen. Missing labels do not establish irrelevance. The 5,000-paper reviewed core remains a future target.
